Reliable Fit-Up for Steel Girder Bridges
Description: Article 6.7.2 of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications requires that the contract documents specify the “fit condition” for which the cross-frames or diaphragms are to be detailed in curved and/or skewed steel I-girder bridges. But what is the “fit condition?” Why is it important? And what does it mean in the real world? This workshop will present a summary of findings and recommendations of research into reliable fit-up of steel I-girder bridges, along with case studies of the construction of steel I-girder bridges in North Carolina.
